Real-time Social News Monitoring

Keep your finger on the pulse while remaining distraction free.

A better pattern for social news sites consumption

If you're anything like the 2.77 billion other people on earth you use social media. And you've probably noticed a pattern - an honest attempt to stay up to date turns into an ugly distraction full of emotionally charged clickbait titles. Judging by the recent proliferation of concepts such as Mark Mason's Attention Diet and Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism humanity is starting to build a social media immune system. In order to benefit from sites like Reddit without all the negative side effects we must define precisely what it is we're looking for. And then ignore the rest.

Each minute MentionMe is sifting thorugh thousands of posts and comments from different sources, giving you just the bits that you want. Receive notifications about what's important live and stay distraction free from toxic headlines you'd otherwise be exposed to with traditional social media use patterns.

With no arbitrarily low limits and API access you're free to use MentionMe's engine to your benefit however you wish. Read on to learn how MentionMe can help you optimize the time you spent online.

Digital Minimalism
A philosophy of technology use in which you focus your online time on a small number of carefully selected and optimized activities that strongly support things you value, and then happily miss out on everything else.

Cal Newport, author of Digital Minimalism

Build your personal brand

Monitor mentions of your product, blog, website, email address or nickname. Don't miss the opportunity to introduce yourself, thank your supporters and gather valuable user feedback when a link to your site gets posted. Just a simple "Hey, author here, thanks for posting" makes a world of a difference to how users perceive you. That's what everybody else is already doing.

"Personal branding is about managing your name - even if you don't own a business - in a world of misinformation, disinformation, and semi-permanent Google records. Going on a date? Chances are that your "blind" date has Googled your name. Going to a job interview? Ditto."

Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek

Provide outstanding user support

Always be the first one to respond to questions, immediately after they get posted. Maybe it's someone struggling with a bug in your software. Maybe someone is complaining about their pains with a competitors product. Or maybe someone is experiencing a problem that you know how to fix. With MentionMe you can jump in on a conversation as it's happening and provide outstanding user support.

"The companies that learn the quickest, win. This is partly because they do not make decisions based on assumptions and partly because they learn from their predecessors. While your competitors are debating which assumption is better than the other, you can build a competitive advantage by gathering real information from your customers."

Dan Norris The 7 Day Startup

Follow your niche

Suppose you want to, say, provide paid support for a little used open source tool. Searching for users experiencing a problem all around the internet can be daunting. With no arbitrary keyword limit MentionMe is your trusted sidekick to find leads and research new markets. Set up an account and start looking for niches with an itch that only you can scratch - studying user pain points has never been so convenient.

"The genius of niches is they are too small for large competitors, allowing a nimble entrepreneur the breathing room to focus on an under-served audience."

Rob Walling in Start Small, Stay Small

Keep track of your competition

Maybe it's your direct competition, or maybe a product in the same class as yours. If you want to be as successful as they are, you have to at least do what they are doing. Let your competitors acitivies be a source of your inspiration. Keep your finger on the pulse!

"The ability to learn faster from customers is the essential competitive advantage that startups must possess."

Eric Ries in The Lean Startup

How Does It Work?

MentionMe is composed of scanners that gather social media data and frontends that you can use to receive your notifications.

The Scanners

The main engine behind the app comprises of multiple scanners running a few times per hour. The frequency is carefuly determined based on the different site API limitations providing you with an optimal, as close to live as possible, alert delivery rate. In case of a failure or underlying site unavailability the job will be queued and re-executed at a later time, until successful, so that you never miss a post.

Currently available sites include:

Drop me a line if your favourite site is not included. It's easy to add new sites, it only took me three hours to add Indie Hackers.

All items (posts, comments, questions, answers) are converted to a common format, filtered through your keyword list and made available to you via the different methods outlined below.

Notification Channels

Built with user convenience in mind, MentionMe supports a wide array of notification frontends.

Get your notifications while they're hot. The Slack App will send you alerts as they occur, allowing your team to react in real time.

E-Mail and RSS

Receive E-Mail reports once a day or immediately. And if you're old school you'll be happy to learn we've got RSS support as well. Check out the demo to see the sample feed.

API and Zapier
